The investment round was led by EQIQ, a regional venture capital firm specializing in emerging markets and founded by Mohamed Al-Hakim. Other notable investors include Finnish EdTech angel investor Risto Vahanen, UK-based SuperChargers Ventures EdTech accelerator, Durubi Management Holding Company founded by Yousef Durubi, angel investor Adel Qahwaji from Jordan, and Pekka Hermonen from Finland.
Founded in 2019 by Mustafa Salam, Corrsy addresses educational challenges in Iraq and the wider Middle East. Mustafa's vision for Corrsy was inspired by his personal experiences during the Iraq armed conflict, where he faced significant hardships, including the loss of his father and displacement. His mission is to leverage technology to create a positive impact on education and society.
Since its inception, Corrsy has achieved remarkable growth. The company launched its first product in 2022, and the Corrsy app has been downloaded over 500,000 times by students in Iraq. Corrsy stands out as the first in the MENA region to integrate gamification, storytelling, and micro-learning into its mobile game app, providing an engaging and effective learning experience for students.
"We are thrilled to have the support of esteemed investors from across the globe – including Finland, Iraq, the MENA region, the UK, and other international backers – who share our vision of transforming education in the MENA region," said Mustafa Salam, Founder and CEO of Corrsy. "This funding will enable us to capture the largest market share in Iraq and scale our services to other markets. We aim to provide everyone with a mobile device and internet connection with high-quality education at a very cost-effective price, so they can pass national exams, learn for life, and enjoy the learning process."
Over the last two years, Corrsy has developed its product closely with users, tackling the private tutoring challenge from a unique angle by putting students at the center of everything. The product features numerous enhancements, allowing students to play and learn, alleviating the stress of national exams and motivating them to learn.
The diverse combination of investors in this round is a strong indicator of the market's potential, and everyone wants to be part of this impactful journey. With such robust backing, Corrsy’s team is more confident than ever in its ability to revolutionize education in the MENA region.
With this new funding, Corrsy is poised to expand its reach and bring innovative educational solutions to more students across the MENA region, contributing to a brighter future through education.
